BOB HOPE

Apr 01, 1991; Palm Springs, CA, USA; (FILE PHOTO) Comedian BOB HOPE died Sunday of pneumonia at his home in Toluca Lake surrounded by his family. Hope was born Leslie Townes Hope on May 29, 1903, in Eltham, England. The legendary actor made his first film appearance in The Big Broadcast of 1938 singing 'Thanks for the Memory,' which became his signature tune. Hope entertained audiences with over 500 movies and TV programs for 7 decades. Despite hosting or appearing at the Academy Awards over 20 times, he never won a regular Oscar. Presidents lauded Hope as a patriot as generations of troops in the field from WWII to The Gulf War found relief in his humor.
